Carol Says is an Australian iPhone app. The family writes what they’d say, and Carol, a painted portrait with a clear Australian voice, says it on Mum or Dad’s iPhone at the times they choose. They press one green button, and family photos come up.

Why I made Carol

I made Carol for my dad. He lives a long way from me, and some days the small things slip. I couldn’t be at his kitchen table at eight every morning, so I made something that could be, saying what I’d say.

Since October she’s been on his phone, and every change you’ll find in her came from watching him use her. If something about her doesn’t suit your family, write to me. I read every email myself.

What Carol isn’t

Carol is not a medical device and gives no medical advice. She doesn’t monitor anyone, send alerts or detect falls (Apple Watch already does fall detection). She isn’t a carer or a nurse. She’s for someone who still runs their own day. The weekly note shows only which days the green button was pressed, and only if Mum or Dad says yes to it.
